How to capture the essence of a place in an art piece
Hi there,
I hope you’re doing well. Here is a warm virtual energy hug 🤗
Whether you’re in the midst of hustle and bustle preparations, or juggling through emotions in response to potentially lacking the hustle and bustle, I want to extend an invitation to gift yourself some creative time this season.
I’m yet to find a moment when art doesn’t help to regulate imbalances, no matter which side of the pendulum you’re currently at.
It took a few years to fully realize that I didn’t feel relaxed when trying to engage in supposedly relaxing self care remedies. My remedy is found in the arts - indulging in it, learning about it, creating it.
Art brings the golden edge to the mundane and isn’t that what life is about? Finding the little treasures that are sprinkled throughout our days 💖

Yesterday I released the new class;
How To Capture The Essence Of A Place In An Artpiece
I feel as though this class represents that warm embrace that we all need this time of year.
Merely creating and filming it has brought back a golden edge for me and I’m sure it’ll have the same effect for you.
It’s about empowering you to look at your surrounding (or inspiring thrifted books?!) through a new lens. There’s inspiration everywhere, we might just not be open to see it yet.
We ask questions like:
What is the essence of a place?
How to identify it?
How to capture it?
How to balance physical representation with emotional connection?
How to design a visual storytelling aimed at the heart of a place…
Behind the scenes of the production of the latest class “How to capture the essence of a place” diving into visual storytelling
You see, the essence of a place goes far beyond physical representation.
What a place means to you may mean something else to me and that is exactly how it’s meant to be. That’s the beauty of the world and how we all have our unique experiences to universal situations.
A forest may be a collection of trees to someone, and a hidden sanctuary to someone else.
These woods over here may mean more to me than those over there for no other reason than emotional connection.
Is it the vibrancy in the air? Memories attached to a place? Stories we’ve been told about it? Or purely the aesthetic beauty that triggers something within? The way the light hits the foliage casting shadows as if time was frozen for a hundred years.
What do YOU think about when you imagine how to find the essence of a place?
All my courses in the Charles and Elin Academy are stripped back to the basics. No fancy pants studio, in fact it’s quite the opposite and that is important to me.
I wish to invite you into a real life authentic experience. Like you’re glimpsing over my shoulder to see an artist at work in their natural habitat.
Because really…. Who’s natural in a flashy environment? Or, maybe there are those who are… but that sure isn’t me!
This class is a theory class designed to complement the upcoming art book Embroidery Wanderlust; Tales and Stitches Through Europe (previously Travel The World Through The Eye Of A Needle), but it works equally well as a stand alone experience.
Ps. All backers of the book project have already received access to the class in your Charles and Elin Academy account! You can learn more about the Book package + bonuses HERE.
If you wish to partake but find it overwhelming to merely imagine when you’d find 2 hours to yourself in the coming week (though, a class is a perfectly acceptable excuse to use to get a minute for yourself… wink wink), don’t worry! Once enrolled by backing the book project OR as a unique purchase - you’ll have lifetime access to the material and can use it as creative fuel whenever it suits you ❤️
